Sunny...Sunny...Sunny

I am back on the coast and loving every moment.  There are plenty of things to share from the past couple of weeks so I hope you have fun reading about my travelling home and sewing world.

The trip between Mt Isa and the Sunshine Coast takes approximately 22.5hrs driving.  Luckily there were some beautiful things to photograph along the way.

Mt Isa - Miles and miles from anywhere.

Along the flat stretches between Mt Isa and Townsville gorgeous clouds stretch on into oblivion.

Pineapples_tville_nov_07_internet

Yummy summery pineapples by the dozen...sweet and juicy.  These were resting outside a quaint corner store in Townsville.

Time for a well earned rest under a majestic old fig.  Charters Towers, once one of the richest settlements in Australia, still drips with gorgeous architecture from the gold rush period.

6...6 magic melons...6 grey umbrellas...6 sweet pavlovas...6 whatever you likes...

Sweet little mangos sitting in a row...They all sitting in a bowl in the hallway now and every time I pass them by my mouth starts to water...mmmmm.

Finally..some yummy, mouldy, reeky, stinky cheese for lunch.  Hot evenings, soaking in the pool, cicadas swooning, fans whirring and to bed.

Back on the coast I have merrily sewing away some new lovelies...

Jovita_1_internet

Introducing Jovita.  Jovita loves King Kong V Godzilla movies, peanut butter and scissors.  She really doesn't like fish or robots.  When Jovita is all big she wants to dress in a king kong suit and climb the Empire State Building while holding a bunch of daffodils and eating peanut butter.

Jovita with a yummy cup of carnation tea...soothing for the soul.

Litte mice cheeks for Jovita.

Mirka_4_internet

Happy days are here for Mirka.  Mirka is a very cheeky lover of magic and tricks.  She adores the circus and loves to much on cheese and apple while watching cartoons.  She really dislikes spewy soup from a can and test cricket.  When she is old enough Mirka longs to pick strawberries in Antarctica.

Mirka_seraphim_internet

Mirka doesn't seem to notice Seraphim is teary.

Seraphim_6_internet

Seraphim is a little angel as her name suggests.  She loves picking mulberries and making tarts, collecting buttons and soy sauce.  She really doesn't like baboons or belly button fluff.  When she is all big and brave Seraphim wants to ride a fluffy bunny across a desert.

Seraphims big, brave heart.

Seraphim_5_internet

Gorgeous, silky red Janese fabric for little Seraphim.

Sirius_3_internet

Sirius is looking quite serious!  Sirius has an obsession with reading books about dogs.  He loves poodles, perms and piercings.  He really doesn't like bull mastiffs or cinnamon bubblegum.  When Sirius is all big he wants to compete in a dog sled race in Canada while dressed as a penguin.

Sirius - long arms, little legs.

Enough for now...I will post pics of some chrissy gifts I have been working on 2moro.  Sleep tight and eat pancakes.

Balloon Boy

Hi all, thanks for popping by.

Balloon_boy_2_internet

I sewed this little balloon person while watching old sci-fi films: Spider Island, Bride of the Gorilla, Santa Claus Vs the Martians and Teenagers from Outer-Space.  I like his peaceful, resting nature so after I find a little frame for him from an op-shop somewhere, he is going to live near the bed to help make me sleepy.

A gorgeous puzzle heart stone I spotted in the bush behind our house.

This week I have had plenty of little walking adventures and am hoping to take plenty of photos before moving back to the coast next week.  Dave and I found a creek (after trekking a long way) behind our house with tall bull-rushes and scarlet kingfishers.  We also spotted an awesome cubby house in an enormous tree.

Orange_flowers_mt_isa_nov_07_intern

Living in Mt Isa has renewed my love for the stark Australian bush with its deep earthy reds and yellows and soft greys and olives.  This spiky grass is brimming with orange-red, poky flowers that make me dream of Christmas sleeping under the fan with a chorus of crickets singing lullabies through the open window.

Another gorgeous pic from behind our home.

I have decided to share a little about my much loved hobby:

Brooches.....

Every now and again I will reveal a single brooch and share a little about where I found it and what it means to me.  They are the perfect tiny item to collect.  Small enough to have many and house them easily, beautiful, odd and each with its own unique story to tell.  The only difficult thing is photographing such minute, intricate items, so please excuse the slightly blurry pics.

Dear_brooch_2_internet

First to show is my tiny black deer.  This is one of my smallest brooches at only 2.5cms tall.  I found her in a store in the country town of Dalby.  The store felt and looked the same from when I was a child until the day it closed.  Luckily for me I happened to be passing by the week it closed and found some gorgeous little brooches (including my little deer) thrown in a woven basket full of mismatched earrings and beads.

Not much else to share today, except a beautiful sight called learning to love you more.  The site is very plain, but the content is amazing.  Along the left side you will find many 'assignments' which people from all around the world can complete.

After clicking on an assignment you can see how different people completed them by choosing a name on the right.  Some assignments are quite humorous like sewing you own adult size baby suit and wearing it out often, while others brought me to tears; reading about what people wish for themselves after death.  Who knows you might even find yourself taking on some assignments!

Have a great day.
Love Soul.

Constipation...

Dear Fellow Bloggers and Avid Readers,

I feel a little constipated, packing up all of our belongings leaves no room for sewing and I am holding out to buy stuffing when I get back to the coast.  The almost finished toys have been put away in a box because I can't stand to look at them longing to be filled and sewn shut any longer.  I guess that in an odd way these feelings of frustration are a good sign that I am doing something I love.

Soon to be back on the coast...where op-shops and stuffing are not the only fun things I will be seeking out.

This gorgeous deadly tredly broach (that I am obsessed with) was picked up at the St Kilda markets (Melbourne), but the funky team of designers at cybertart can be reached online...yay!

Storms and Flower Brooches

Only one more week until the big move back to the coast.  I can't wait to get sand in my hair and rummage through the many op-shops.  The sewing resource shortage is soon to come to an end.

I am spending the last few days appreciating the beauty of such a harsh climate.

Grn_bush_mt_isa_late_septearly_oc_2

It has been raining a little and the 'way' it rains here is so different to the rains on the coast.  The clouds are so menacing, having to swell and darken into a deep purple before bursting.  A single crack of thunder woke me in the middle of the night and then it was silent once again.

Dave_walking_mt_isa_late_septearly_

These beautiful flower brooches are made from my fabric scrap heap.
I followed the brilliant tutorial at craftzine.
It's a fantastic way to use up those too small for toys too big to throw pieces and also a lovely little idea for a Christmas friend gift.

2_flower_broaches_1_internet

I added extra layers of petals and some pretty ribbony scraps to some of the flowers.

Have a lovely week :)
